비장청

비장청(裨將廳)
1789년(정조 13) 창건 - 2002년 복원
비장청은 고을 수령을 보좌하는 비장들이 근무하는 건물이다. 화성 유수는 정2품 당상관이었기 때문에 여러 명의 비장을 두었다. 조선 정조 19년(1795)에 혜경궁 홍씨의 회갑연을 치를 때 비장은 음식을 차리는 일을 비롯해서 행사의 모든 절차를 담당했다. 비장청은 유수를 보좌하는 업무 성격에 맞게 고을 수령이 공무를 처리하는 건물인 동헌(봉수당) 가까이에 두었다. 화성 축성이 마무리되던 1796년에 서리청의 건물을 수리해서 비장청으로 사용하였다.
Adjutant’s Office
This building was the office of adjutants (bijang) who assisted the local magistrate of Suwon. The adjutant officers always worked in close cooperation with the local magistrate, and they made great contributions to the construction of Hwaseong Fortress and the birthday banquet held for King Jeongjo’s mother in 1795.
